The Path of Kriya Yoga
Level Three: Discipleship
“Those who join on the path of Self-realization are not connected to some printing press, but to a line of God realized masters. God Himself through them, overshadows this work. All who follow it sincerely, with devotion, will be brought to Him.”

The Essence of Self-Realization
In this four week course, we will discuss the role of the disciple, the role of the Guru, offer an opportunity to take discipleship vows, and learn the Aum technique of meditation.
Week one: The role of the disciple
Many understand the great importance of having a mentor or serving in some form of apprenticeship. These forms of learning are also of prime importance on the spiritual path. A true Guru has one object in mind, that is to bring the disciple up to his level of perfection. Yogananda said he would come a billion times if necessary to bring just one stray soul back into the fold. The role of the disciple is to open up or attune one’s Self to the magnetic power of the Guru. The result is a quickening of our spiritual evolution.
Week two: The role of the Guru
The Guru remembers when he too was struggling to awaken from what the yogis call this “dream of life.” After great sustained effort he eventually succeeded and now driven by the past memory of his dynamic struggle humbly offers the priceless gift of freedom to all receptive souls. The Guru works with us as we are, acting as a mirror to reflect back the beauty and purity of our own higher Self. All the great Indian scriptures declare that there is no greater blessing in this world than to have a true Guru to take us on the path to liberation.
Week three: the discipleship vow
There is a time in life when a vow can play a very important role. The vow of discipleship is offered in a sacred ceremony before the altar of our line of Gurus. This simple yet meaningful vow has a transforming power to change ourselves forever as it sets into motion the commitment to live for God alone. A vow such as this acts as a true force to draw the Gurus abundant blessings by formally offering ourselves in service and devotion to his cause. Yogananda said that God is the true Guru. The great masters only act as God’s instrument.
Week four: The Aum technique
The Aum technique has been practiced by yogis for many centuries. God manifests Himself in numerous ways, as love, light wisdom, etc. One of these manifestations is through sound, the easiest way to commune with him. The Aum technique is a means to listen and become completely absorbed in the inner sounds of the chakras (or spiritual centers) which helps to open the doorway to our portable paradise within.
